Artist Statement
Zachary Yeung grew up in Hong Kong and moved to Toronto, Canada to pursue a bachelor of fine arts degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU).
In his creative practice, Yeung takes a multi-media approach to exploring themes of memory, nostalgia, and childhood with work often depicting places from Sai Kung, Yeung’s hometown.
Heavily influenced by the works of cartoonists such as Lincoln Peirce, Jeff Kinney, and Charles Schulz, Yeung primarily works with ink-on-paper; creating liner pen illustrations with the occasional splashes of colour that are reminiscent of the images one might find in a graphic novel or manga. By emulating this style, Yeung hopes to evoke a sense of childhood innocence and nostalgia in the viewer and fulfill his dream of "bringing his drawings to life".
Outside of his illustration practice, Yeung wrote and directed the short film Autopilot, 2024 which was screened at the OCADU 2024 Fall Cabaret. Yeung also has experience working in various production roles on student film sets, including as a grip, production assistant, and camera operator.
